Caryota

تابع بعض أنواع نخيل الزينة 10535

Family: Palmae

Common name: Fishtail palm

Genus of 12 species of single- and cluster-stemmed, monoecious, sometimes monocarpic palms from India and Sri Lanka to S.E.Asia, N. Australia and the Solomon Islands. They occur in forest in humid or monsoon climates. It's a tough, easy to grow palm that makes a great houseplant Caryota typically form multi-stemmed clumps up to 25’ in height by 12’ in width. Each slender stem is topped with several bipinnate leaves than can reach 9’ in length. The light green leaflets are shaped like a fish’s lower fin, hence its common name. The fishtail palm is native to southeast Asia where it grows as an understory plant in the tropical rain forest. Needs adequate moisture with good drainage

Growing conditions

Average warmth.Good indirect light is the proper location. Grow in soil-based potting mix

Watering and misting

Compost must be kept moist at all times and never allowed to dry out. Misting is necessary

Propagation

Sow seed at 81 F (21 C) in spring. Also by division of clumps and separation of suckers from parent clump

Chamaedorea

تابع بعض أنواع نخيل الزينة 10536

Family: Palmae

Genus of about 100 species of mainly small palms from rainforest in Mexico and Central and South America. Hardy bamboo palm forms clumps of slender stems up to 8' in height. Papery matte finish leaves are arranged sparsely up and down the stems. These pinnate leaves are up to 2 feet in length and are composed of leaflets (about 8" long by 1" wide) attached along the midrib. A drooping inflorescence appears in summer. Male and female flowers are borne on separate plants. Female flowers are followed by the fruit which are bright orange berries about 1/4" in diameter. These light up the shade garden as they dangle in drooping clusters from the graceful stems. Moderate drought resistance

Growing conditions

Average warmth.Good indirect light is the proper location. Grow in soilless potting mix

Watering and misting

Compost must be kept moist at all times and never allowed to dry out. Misting is necessary

Propagation

Plant fresh seed in spring at not less than 77 F (25 C). It will germinate in 1 to 2 months - old seeds may take longer. Also propagated by division of clumps

Chamaerops

Family: Palmae

تابع بعض أنواع نخيل الزينة 10537

Common name: European fan palm

Genus of one species of shrubby palm from dry scrub and rocky or sandy slops in the W. Mediterranean region. Its native range extends from Africa's Atlas Mountains in Morroco to Spain and France and eastward to Turkey. Chamaerops humilis (European fan palm) can grow up to 15' in height. The triangular, fan-shaped leaves grow to about 20-24" long by 24" wide. They are deeply divided into multiple segments that are themselves split at the tip and they are supported on 3-4' stems. This is an extremely variable plant both in color (the leaves range from blue-green to grey-green to yellow-green) and in shape. Prefers bright sunny conditions, also does well in part shade with some direct sunlight. It will survive in rather heavy shade but "stretches" to loose its compact shape. Is very drought tolerant once established

Growing conditions

Average warmth.Good indirect light is the proper location. Grow in soil-based potting mix.

Watering and misting

Compost must be kept moist at all times and never allowed to dry out. Misting is necessary

Propagation

Sow seed at not less than 72 F (22 C) in spring. Can also be propagated by dividing clumps or removing suckers both which require superhuman effort

Cocos

تابع بعض أنواع نخيل الزينة 10539

تابع بعض أنواع نخيل الزينة 10539

Family: Palmae

Common name: Coconut Palm

Genus of one species of single-stemmed palm from coastal tropical regions worldwide, possibly originating in the W. Pacific. Cocos (Coconut Palm) have graceful gray trunks topped by a crown of pinately compound yellow-green leaves. Each leaf is 15'-17' long. Coconut is a pan-tropical species usually found in humid coastal areas between latitudes 26 degrees north and south

Growing conditions

Average warmth.Good indirect light is the proper location. Grow in well-drained soil-based potting mix

Watering and misting

Compost must be kept moist at all times and never allowed to dry out. Misting is necessary

Propagation

Plant fresh coconuts (with husks) on their side, half buried in moist soil (half of the coconut is exposed) -- if kept moist, will sprout in 2-3 months. The temperature should be 81-86 F (27-30 C). Growth is slow at first but picks up as the palm matures

Chrysalidocarpus

تابع بعض أنواع نخيل الزينة 10540

Family: Palmae

Common name: Areca palm, Golden cane palm, Madagascar palm, Yellow palm

Genus of about 20 species of single- and cluster-stemmed palms from forest in areas with high rainfall in Madagascar and adjacent islands

Chrysalidocarpus lutescens is a very common sight in the tropics and sub-tropics. It is often taken for granted but deserves more recognition and appreciation. Chrysalidocarpus can grow up to 20 feet tall, although it is usually smaller. Six to eight leaves on long petioles (leaf stems) arise from the main trunk and gracefully arch outward and downward. Each leaf has about 80-100 leaflets that are arranged on the leaf stem in a shallow V. The common name derives from the ********* golden yellow color of the petioles.

The golden cane palm is native to Madagascar where, sadly, it is endangered and very rare. However it is very common in tropical landscapes around the world and is the most popular 'house plant' palm. Will grow in sun or shade but looks its best in bright diffuse light

Growing conditions

Average warmth.Good indirect light is the proper location. Grow in soil-based potting mix

Watering and misting

Compost must be kept moist at all times and never allowed to dry out. Misting is necessary

Propagation

Golden cane palm can be propagated from seeds which take 2-6 months to germinate. Sow seed at not less than 79 F (26 C) in spring. Offshoots cut from the base of the palm can be used to start new plants

Howea

تابع بعض أنواع نخيل الزينة 10541

Family: Palmae

Common name: Sentry palm

Genus 2 species of single-stemmed palms found usually on basalt soils, on Lord Howe Island, Australia. The Howea (Kentia) Palms are the traditional Palm Court plants which grow up to 8 ft tall. Two of the most satisfactory species for indoor use are Howea belmoreana and Howea forsteriana. Both are commonly listed as Kentia. Belmoreana is more erect in growth than forsteriana, although both grow from one central stem or trunk

Growing conditions

Average warmth.Good indirect light is the proper location. Grow in soil-based potting mix

Watering and misting

Compost must be kept moist at all times and never allowed to dry out. Misting is necessary

Propagation

Sow seed at 79 F (26 C) as soon as ripe

Livistona

تابع بعض أنواع نخيل الزينة 10549

Family: Palmae

Common name: Ribbon fan palm

Genus of about 28 species of single-stemmed palms, found in habitats ranging from streambanks and swamps to woodland, rainforest, and inland gorges, in the warmer parts of Asia and Australia. It's graceful form and robust nature has earned this palm a place in tropical and sub-tropical landscapes around the world

Growing conditions

Average warmth.Good indirect light is the proper location. Grow in soil-based potting mix

Watering and misting

Compost must be kept moist at all times and never allowed to dry out. Misting is necessary

Propagation

Sow seed at 73 F (23 C) in spring. Plant seeds 1/4 inch deep and keep moist, they will germinate in 4 to 10 weeks
